Jubilees and Jubblys A trainspotter's story 1959-64 Part 1

This pocket sized book is a volume in our tribute to the Ian Allan ABC Combined Volume series, is the first of a 'two parter'. To so many youngsters growing up in the days of steam on Britain's national rail network the ABC Combined was a must have item. This series features memories of the trainspotters who were out there meticulously recording each loco they 'spotted' by carefully underlining them in the relevant section. But trainspotting was so much more than this it was about camaraderie, day trips, rail tours, shed bashing, sandwiches, duffle bags and the triangular frozen drink known as a 'Jubbly'. This first part of Stewart's story takes us from 1959 to the early months of 1963. The second volume will take us through 1963/4

privatisation, it was the sole steam-operated line on the nationalised British Rail network, steam traction having ceased in 1968 on all other parts of the system. Unlike some other preserved railways in the United Kingdom, the Vale of Rheidol Railway has never closed, with the exception of wartime and has operated a service for tourists through its life. The railway celebrated its centenary in 2002.

The Railway is a charity, meaning the income it generates goes back into the railway, to aid in restoration and running of the steam locomotives. Buying through our online giftshop enables you to get the product you want but also donate to the railway and keep it alive.
